If staff need a faster assistant inside Microsoft 365, start with Copilot. If a named process currently consumes employees' time, build a custom agent for that process. Plenty of businesses need Copilot for people and a custom agent for one or two operational jobs. There isn't a single winner. We'd map the work first. Where the job is drafting, searching and summarising in Microsoft 365, we roll out Copilot under managed Microsoft 365. Copilot can speed up work a person is already doing in Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams. It doesn't usually take over a multi-step operational process on its own, especially where that process sits in a CRM, finance system or helpdesk queue. If the job is helping people draft and find information, Copilot is a fit. If the job is running a process every time it happens, with defined rules and a handover, you need a custom agent.
